My primary appointment is at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, Maryland. I also have an appointment at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. My passion is sleep research. I have a great deal of EEG experience in the context of sleep research and sleep medicine. I have extended this experience by collecting simultaneous EEG+fMRI data during sleep. I am also collaborating with other researchers at Walter Reed and NIH on collecting and analyzing PET data--H2(15)O and L-[1-(11)C]leucine--during sleep. Within the general category of sleep research, my primary areas of expertise are the neural control of sleep, the relationship between stress and sleep, sleep deprivation, sleep cognition, narcolepsy, and sleep-dependent learning.
